Moving On

Miscellany · October 4, 2010

I’m doing it; I’m taking a leap of faith (or a long walk off a short pier, depending on how you feel about it). I’ve decided to move on from CareHere. After nearly five years of working with some incredibly talented individuals in a fast growing segment of the healthcare industry I’ve decided that it’s time for a new challenge in my life. At the moment, however, I’m just not sure what that is.

Mandy is completely in support of the change even though we both recognize the fact that it will, most likely, mean a huge change for our boys. You see, I’ve been blessed to work from home the majority of the time for the past five years and, while I would certainly welcome the opportunity to continue to work from home some of the time, I doubt it will be to the same extent as it has been.

I’ve written in the past about what it has meant to me and my company to work in a virtual organization but from a purely personal perspective, it meant no commute and no time wasted in the car trying to get home to see my family. In practical terms, this meant that at 5:00 I was able to walk out of my office and spend two to two-and-a-half hours with Mandy and the boys before bedtime doing what they wanted to do. Granted, on most nights I went back to work after they went to bed, but I didn’t have to waste half of that time battling the traffic on I-65 South.

So why am I choosing to leave (and now, especially)? Well, to be honest, it just feels like the right time to go. CareHere is a dynamic company staffed by many dedicated individuals that will continue to do great things for their patients and clients. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve alongside these people and I will miss them terribly. At the end of the day, however, I felt that I had lost a bit of my place within the organization.

I’m not 100 percent sure of exactly why this happened, but it did, and I’m truly excited to be moving on in search of a new opportunity to discover what I’m working for, really. I feel 100 percent confident, however, in the fact that I contributed a lot to a company that was recently honored as a three-time winner of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce’s Future 50 award.
